The original engraving was described in a museum catalog as: discolored carnelian or chancedony scaraboid - Youth and girl. He holds a mantle round his waist with his left hand, while in the other he holds up another garment, perhaps that of the girl. She is nude and crouches before him; her right hand is raised, the left is pulling at his garment;; her hair is tied in a sakkos. Third quarter of fifth century B.C. This is one of the largest engraved stones of its period known. 34mm. Metropolitan Museum of Art. New York.
