Heraldica's Mythological Ladies' Ring Collection
The original engraving was described in a museum catalog as: Greek intaglio - Black jasper scaraboid - 480-470 B.C. The name Anakles inscribed in the original stone may refer either to the owner of the stone or to the artist. A nude satyr is leaning against a wineskin and is holding out his kantharos in his right hand while the left is laid on his hip. The head is in profile; the trunk in three quarter view. The lower left leg is eclipsed This tail is shown behind this leg. The size of the original stone is 16mm Metropolitan Museum of Art. New York.
